The Craighall Centre building was completed in 1985, one of two Social Work Department resources for physically disabled adults in the city of Edinburgh. It is a bright, modern design which contrasts sharply with that of the older building previously in use.
The Lothian Regional Council (now superceded by The City of Edinburgh Council) was able to fund the construction of a number of good quality buildings at that time. Several homes for elderly people, and centres for adults with learning disabilities were completed in the mid 1980s. Since that time the Council's emphasis has switched from direct service provision in centres with daytime support now being developed in mainstream community locations whenever possible.
